PSA: to the person who has fallen in love with photography and is considering starting a business but is afraid of how others (mainly photographers) will perceive them: YOU ARE AMAZING. GO GET IT.
I know the feeling. Wanting to pursue something you're passionate about but having some pushback from people in the creative community you're hoping to become a part of. It isn't a fun spot to be in.
Since I started my business, I've seen soooo many photographers who are straight up bitter about "newbies" starting out. PHOTOGRAPHERS: WHY ON EARTH DO YOU CARE?! We all started somewhere. And it makes me sad to think there's so many people out there who aren't going after something they love simply for fear of being judged.
Back to you, dreamer. I understand that you need to charge less when you're starting out in order to gain experience in the industry. And I also understand that this world is scary enough without "big time" photographers in your area bringing you down for pursuing your passion.
And If you start taking photos, establish a business and start KILLING it a few months later, THAT'S AMAZING. You are helping move this industry forward as a whole. And I, for one, will NEVER be bitter towards you for that. Because I 100% believe that there's room for EVERYONE at the top.
And if other photographers in your area have a problem with you killing the game? Well. I'd recommend spending time with those of us who will always celebrate your accomplishments with you and continually root for your success.
So go after it, people. And forget the haters. They mean little to nothing in the scheme of things.
YAS. ✨
